JJ Johnstone grew up in Parrsboro, a small coastal town in Nova Scotia. Raised in a creative family where her mother wrote poetry and her grandmother painted, she learned early to value storytelling. When her husband John was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, she became his full-time caregiver.

Determined to help others, she studied dementia care and playwriting, writing a play about the disease. Her books mix raw personal stories with practical advice that offers hope to families. JJ believes art and honesty can ease dementia’s isolation.
